This year is being different in many ways, and let’s not even talk about traveling or organizing a vacation … Don’t worry! In Venetiis Restaurant we have proposed that you know everything about our culture, and we invite you to travel through words to know one of the most wonderful places in the world … Venice.

Our chef Matteo Manzato, from the city of canals, always talks about the products for cooking, his mountains, the marine character of his people … it is full of charms, and in this post we are going to discover some.

History and culture of Venice

St Marcos Basilica

Although Venice is full of Catholic temples, the basilica is the main image. It was built only in 4 years (years 828 – 832), although it was later modified, and is part of the Byzantine architectural style. What can’t we miss from this incredible monument? The main facade, of course, full of reliefs and frescoes and led by the image of the saint and his four horses. The spectacular nature of the exterior is transferred to the interior, where gold stands out above the other shades and where luxury and sumptuousness are denoted.

Correr Museum

If you want to see more than religious reasons, this is your place. The Correr Museum is the municipal museum of Venice, one of the most important. In addition to discovering the history, archeology and art of this place, you can also visit the National Martian Library (Martian by the patron Saint Mark, not by Mars).

Basilica of Saint Mary of Health

The origin of the construction of this basilica is quite curious, since it was due to the plague that sickened all of Venice in 1630. Faced with such a catastrophe, the patriarch of the city, Giovanni Tiepolo, promised to build a basilica dedicated to the figure of the Virgin of Health so that her people would not suffer such damage from the disease again. For its construction it was necessary to gain land from the sea, which made the total execution last 56 years, but we are convinced that they felt it was worth it for having managed to gather so much beauty in a single building. eye! We not only talk about the beautiful architecture, but we can also find works by the great painter Titian.

Corners to get lost

Cannaregio

It is the quintessential working class neighborhood of Venice. In 1516 it became the Jewish quarter, and today it is the best place to delve into the daily life of the Venetians with their customs and bustle.

Castello

The largest neighborhood in Venice and with the greatest mix of spaces. We can find from the most touristic area to the humblest, where we can find an environment of traditional fishermen.

Venice Canals

We can walk them up in the well-known gondolas and enjoy the inaccessible corners that they offer us … There are more than 350 bridges, and the most peculiar ones that we can see on our route are the Bridge of Sigh (known this way because the prisoners sentenced to death passed by , not for romantic reasons), the Rialto Bridge (the most photographed), and the Constitution Bridge, by the Spanish architect Calatrava, harshly criticized for breaking with the general aesthetics of the city.

The geography of Veneto

This region of northern Italy has great contrasts, and you can still spend a day in its mountainous areas like cooling your feet on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. We recommend these unforgettable places and we do it with photographs, because you already know that an image is worth a thousand words…

Lago Garda
Dolomitas

Venice attracts us, teaches us, makes us fall in love. It is one of those cities that are never forgotten, the most recurring tourist destination. Now you know a little more about it, and we hope that very soon you can visit it and enjoy its people and its many charms.
